I feel that more than choosing the right carrier, it’s a matter of if the baby likes to be placed in the carrier. Of course the type of carrier and it’s comfort does play a big role but every baby is different and having two, I have realized that not every baby likes to be stuffed in a carrier. So lets dive right into choosing the right carrier for your baby!
Myrra’s experience
From the start, Myrra loved her cuddles but she also liked to roam and explore freely. She would demand to be left on the floor so she could move around and get into trouble. I had a feeling she wasn’t going to enjoy being carried and I got an Infantino carrier from Amazon before investing into an experience one.
To prepare for our first trip to Jamaica, I really tried to get her used to the carrier and placed her in it during our short outings. She would fuss and try to squirm out of it. No matter what I did or tried, she would not be happy staying in a carrier. She was a fairly tall baby and assumed that maybe being tall was the culprit of hating the carrier. I was honestly ready to blame anything at that point because I wanted her to like it. I wanted to have the freedom to wander without a stroller. Well, it did not work. We used the carrier in Jamaica but it was on one very rare occasion.
Amarra’s experience
Enter Amarra! From the first day, I knew her story with the carrier was going to be different. She loved to be carried and cuddled every single minute. If i kept her close to me the entire day, she was on cloud nine BUT if I left her down to do some work, the monster in her awoke. I knew she would enjoy the carrier and I knew she would be more calm in it.
Ergobaby 360
I brought out my infantino and started carrying her places and she loved it and I loved having the freedom of roaming without a stroller. After a month of this, I decided to invest in an Ergobaby 360! I mainly chose this carrier cause it came with a lumbar support and I knew this would be easier on my body if I had to carry her for hours. Also, the weight limit was a bit higher which meant I would eventually have the option of carrying her in it for longer. Amarra sleeps in it and feeds in it and can stay in it for hours at end.
The Ergobaby 360 had some really cool features that I knew would be the perfect fit for her and for me. I researched other companies and went over the features of each one of them before I picked this one. I haven’t once regretted buying this carrier and both of us absolutely love it.
My verdict on choosing the right carrier for your baby
Because of my own contradicting experiences with both the kiddos, I can say that a carrier is a very individualized decision. Many moms have asked me, ‘if it is a must to own a carrier’! Well, nothing is a must. It is definitely convenient but again, not every baby will be comfortable in the carrier. A babies temperament matters more than your eagerness to use one. Before investing in an expensive one, I would definitely recommend to try out a cheaper one first or just make a call based on how your baby is and if he/she likes to be carried a lot more!
If you are looking for a new carrier, I would recommend the Ergobaby but make sure you read the details to ensure it is a good fit for your family.
Budget friendly tip
I really wanted the Kitty design and luckily it was on sale! Usually there are some designs that companies are either discontinuing or discounting those that won’t sell. Typically, you can most often find these in the clearance section. Make sure you have a look at them and decide if you like any. Additionally, I was able to secure a 20% off coupon just by googling for any coupon codes available. You never know, there may be a code somewhere!
