Living in the Bruce Peninsula, we have visited Tobermory quite a bit. This is our go to place when we have guests visiting from the city or even if we are looking for a place to go for the weekend. There are a few options to stay while visiting Tobermory, but our personal favourite is camping in Tobermory. The Bruce Peninsula National Park is filled with beautiful hikes and trails, and this could be the perfect place to set up base while staying amid it all.
Where is Tobermory?
Tobermory is located almost 4 hours north of the downtown Toronto core. It is the northern most tip of the Bruce Peninsula and it is home to multiple provincial parks and two beautiful national parks. If you are planning to spend a day or a weekend in the Bruce Peninsula, Tobermory is a great place to visit. There are beautiful campgrounds near Tobermory and there are numerous attractions that can fill up your day or weekend.
Weather in Tobermory
The Weather in Tobermory is quite hot in the summer and COLD in the winters. During the winter months, the town pretty much shuts down. The stores and restaurants close their doors for the winter season. Spring, summer, and fall are the perfect seasons to visit Tobermory. Spring brings fewer crowds and with the town just waking up from the winter months, it is a great time to visit.
Camping in Tobermory – The 3 best campgrounds
There are quite a few campgrounds in Tobermory and around this little town. Camping near Tobermory is quite famous and there are multiple and beautiful campgrounds located in the Bruce Peninsula. My top 5 picks are:

1. Bruce Peninsula National Park
The Cyprus Lake Campground is one of the most famous campgrounds in Tobermory. This National Park is filled with so many gems that setting up base in the park itself is one of the best ways to see all the wonderful sites here. The famous grotto in Tobermory is located inside the Bruce Peninsula National Park.
The Halfway Log Dump, Indian Head Cove and Singing Sands are all located in this Parks Canada Park. If you are looking for reservations to this park, make sure you click here. 2. Happy Hearts Park
This park has options for RV camping, Cabin camping or even tent camping. There are some great facilities for the family to enjoy. These include a playground area, baseball court, Horseshoe pits, peddle carts, mini golf, tables, firepits, a swimming pool, a dump station and so much more. Happy hearts is located 2.5 kms away from the Chi-Cheemaun ferry to Manitoulin and it is a few minutes away from the famous Little Tub Harbour. Happy hearts is also a short drive from several access points to the Bruce Trail.
3. Summerhouse Park
Located on the quite shores of Miller Lake, this Park is open from May to October, and it is the perfect spot to spend the Thanksgiving weekend with your family. Some of the campsites back right onto Miller Lake and the views are exceptional. The Lake water is warm and shallow, and it is the perfect spot for little kids because of the sandy beach. Things to do in Tobermory
Tobermory is home to the Fathom Five Marine Park. Here you can find shipwrecks or even check out the Blue Heron Tobermory cruise company. Blue Heron cruises are the best way to get to the Flowerpot Island Tobermory. This island is beautiful, and you can spend 4 hours on the island exploring it or relaxing by the flowerpots. Flowerpot Island also has some of the best Tobermory camping sites so if you are looking to camp at Flowerpot Island, this would be another great option.

Our favourite Restaurants in Tobermory
There is no lack of food options in Tobermory. This is one of those places in the Bruce Peninsula where you will find Beavertail! We absolutely love this place and enjoy our visits to Tobermory to eat some Beavertail. Our absolute favourite restaurant in Tobermory is Shipwreck Lee’s. It is located at the corner of the main street and there is always a line up to get inside. There is an option for all you can eat fish and chips and it is priced at $19.99$/person. The food is delicious, and the fish is exceptional. Whitefish is a local delicacy in Tobermory and the restaurant make some of the best fish and chips using Whitefish.
Final thoughts
Although there are some options of where you can stay including hotels, motels, and cottages, camping in Tobermory wins. There are so many breathtaking campgrounds in Tobermory. If you truly want to explore the outdoors which is what Tobermory is so famous for, consider camping in Tobermory.
