Like us, if you too spend hours researching on the right accommodation for your trip, let me tell you, you are in for a treat. If you are debating whether to pick a beach villa or an over water villa when traveling to the Maldives with kids, I am here to share my experience with you. Picking the right accommodation when traveling anywhere with kids plays such a huge role in planning a trip.
I bet you are excited to stay on one of those over water villas or have your own private pool. It was important for me to find a honest review on beach villa versus an over water villa with kids. This can make such a big difference in a destination like the Maldives.
How we broke up our stay
We stayed at Dusit Thani for 5 nights and we picked a combination of both these accommodations. Our stay comprised of 3 nights in a Deluxe beach villa with a pool and 2 nights in an over water villa with a pool. If you want to read more about planning a trip to the Maldives with kids, Click Here.
First, let me start by explaining what each villa has.
Deluxe beach villa with a pool
The deluxe beach villa with a pool has tremendous space around it for little ones to run around. It is just steps away from the beach and comes with your private pool, an oversized bed with single beds based on the number of kids you have and an outdoor shower area. There is a fully stocked bar and a coffee station in the room. As a welcome, there are some delicious treats left in the room as well.
The best part about this room is the outdoor washroom/bathroom area. The backside of the villa has an enclosed toilet and another enclosed area with a shower. There are two sinks in the open and a standing tub that is open to the sky. Walk through some patio stones and it takes you to your outdoor shower area. This was easily one of the best features of this room along with our private pool.
Overwater villa with a pool
The ocean water villa with a pool has its charm. We saw beautiful sunsets right from the pool. It comes with an oversized bed along with single beds depending on the number of children you have. There is a fully stocked bar and a coffee station area.
The sink, shower area, toilet and standing tub are inside the room. There is a huge deck that houses a pool and a quick shower stop. Steps from your deck take you right into the ocean. Dusit Thani has one of the best house reefs and we got to see some really cool marine life steps away form our villa. We also saw dolphins playing almost everyday we were there.
So, which one wins? – Honest review on Beach villa versus an overwater villa
Although, an over water villa has its own perks and it was definitely a beautiful villa, we absolutely loved our beach villa. The kids were able to run freely, and we were never worried that they may fall over the deck. The outdoor shower area was amazing and we literally had showers 3-4 times a day just to use it. We loved that the beach was only steps away from the villa.
The girls loved playing in the sand and building sand castles. We were able to take turns and snorkel because the house reef was close by. We felt that this villa was more private than the over water villa. At the end of the trip, the girls agreed that they liked the beach villa a lot more.
Every family has different needs and expectations from their trip. While this is our experience, if you have had an experience different than ours, we would love to hear it! As always, if you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment or email us.
I hope you enjoyed reading our honest beach villa versus an over water villa review with kids. Our stay in the Maldives was absolutely magical and we wish for you to have the same experience.
